LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - Lady GaGa’s single “LoveGame” soared into the top 10 Thursday, giving the dance-pop singer two songs in the chart’s top tier, while the Black Eyed Peas held on to the No. 1 spot.
“LoveGame” flew from No. 22 to No. 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100. Lady GaGa’s “Poker Face” remained at No. 2, behind the Black Eyed Peas’ reigning chart-topper, “Boom Boom Pow.”

Whitney Houston to release comeback album this fall

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Pop diva Whitney Houston will release a new album in September, her first in seven years, Arista Records said on Thursday, announcing the long-awaited comeback for the talented but troubled star.
Since her career kicked off in 1985 with her self-titled debut, Houston has sold more than 170 million records, singles and videos around the world. Houston, 45, is one of music’s most decorated female artists, with more than 400 awards.

Cher sues record label for $6.2 million

Cher has sued Universal Music Group, claiming that the label’s creative accounting has shortchanged her and the heirs of her late ex-husband, Sonny Bono, to the tune of $US5 million ($6.2 million).

The lawsuit, filed on Tuesday (local time) in Los Angeles Superior Court, claims an audit of UMG’s accounting to the singer-actress from 2000 to 2003 showed that UMG executives “engaged in wrongful tactics” designed to hide revenue from two hit compilation albums.

Eminem holds on to No.1 spot on Billboard 200

LOS ANGELES (Billboard) - Rapper Eminem held on to the No.1 slot on the Billboard 200 for a second week with his new release “Relapse”, and the album became the fifth biggest seller of 2009.
“Relapse” shifted another 211,000, bringing its two week total to 819,000 sales.

Pearl Jam confirms partnership with Target

NEW YORK (Billboard) - As Internet reports suggested, Pearl Jam was indeed recording a Target commercial under the direction of Cameron Crowe last week at Seattle’s Showbox theater. But there’s more to the story than an exclusive retail relationship.
It has been known that Pearl Jam is no longer under contract, after 18 years of recording for Sony-affiliated labels, and there has been a good deal of speculation about who would release the rock act’s next album. Kelly Curtis, who has managed Pearl Jam since day one, conducted a wide-ranging interview with Billboard on Sunday night, confirming that the band’s next release — rumored to be called “Backspacer” and currently scheduled for an early fall release — would arrive without a U.S. label but backed by a consortium of partners, including Target as the “big box” retail partner.

Beatles reveal Rock Band details

DENVER (Billboard) - The surviving members of the Beatles unveiled new details about their upcoming “Rock Band” videogame at the E3 videogame conference in Los Angeles.
Joined by Beatles widows Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr disclosed 10 of the 45 songs expected in “The Beatles: Rock Band” when it comes out September 9.

Ozzy Osbourne sues over rights to Black Sabbath name

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne has sued his former band mate Tony Iommi over the ownership of the group’s name.
Osbourne, 60, filed a lawsuit in federal court in New York, on Tuesday accusing the guitarist of falsely claiming to be the sole owner of the Black Sabbath name, his representatives said on Friday.

Blink-182 announces summer tour

If it hadn’t been for drummer Travis Barker’s near-fatal airplane crash last year, Blink-182 might not be touring this summer.

But after a five-year hiatus, the rock trio — Barker, Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge — will embark on a nearly 50-date North American arena and amphitheater tour, beginning July 24 at the Joint in Las Vegas, and wrapping October 3 at the Borgata Events Center in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
